Many of you may already know that human rights and animal rights are a big part of my life. Some of the key themes in The Sity are representative of cruelties in the “real” world on Earth, such as child slavery, human trafficking, the abuse of animals (in testing, food production, and entertainment), etc.
I believe it’s important that we try to do something to combat these types of injustices.
An easy way to do that is to take a few minutes out of each day to sign petitions. I used to run a local chapter of Amnesty International and would organize numerous petition campaigns. I know many people are skeptical about how effective petitions are. Some of the campaigns don’t lead to change. But speaking from experience, others really do! Another important and overlooked component to petitions is the awareness they raise around critical issues. This type of educational can help prevent future injustices from happening.
It’s important to know about what is going on in the world and the “real” lives that get affected each day. One website that I really like is called change.org. This site allows people like you and me and to organize grassroots petition campaigns to help bring about change in this crazy world.
Some of the issues represented are large scale, while others focus on injustices against individual people. Also, as with signing anything, it’s important to do your own research to determine if the campaign is something you support. I don’t sign every petition on change.org.
I ask that you take a few minutes and visit the site. Look through some of the campaigns and see if there is an issue you can stand behind.
The harsh cruelties that make up THE SITY are all around us on Earth. Let’s change it for the better. Help out the life of an animal. Free an innocent person still incarcerated. Stop sexism and bullying in our schools.
Sorry for the preaching, but this shit matters. 🙂
